Surfing in Indonesia

A surfers dream. This country has some of the most perfect waves on the planet. . Indo is just full of waves and most of them are on Coral reef breaks.

Impossibles Bali

Bali

Bali is the most popular and people started surfing there in the 70′s. Bali is a surfers paradise, a bunch of world class waves surround the southern part of the Island, west and east coat. The west coast is best surfed in the months May to September and the other months you can surf the east coast. Trade winds dominate here, so when it turns onshore just jump across to the other side of the Island. The west coast has left hand breaking waves, the east coast right handers. There is also some fun beach breaks on the west coast, but the water can be a little dirty at times.

Many Islands and more

Indonesia has thousands of Islands and many do not even have names yet! Sumbawa, Sumatra, Java, Timor, Lombok are just to name a few. There are many uncharted Islands off these large Islands that are only accessed by boat.

Coral Reef Breaks

Coral waves are what most of these waves break on. Many people instantly think of gapping tubes breaking on shallow reefs. Not true. Well a lot of these waves do tube, but there are some great waves that break in deep water and are only dangerous at low tides. Coral cuts should be immediately treated with a disinfectant and all coral removed. The last thing you want in the tropics are infections. Always carry a small medical kit and some antibiotics.

Malaria

Indonesia unfortunately has a lot of Malaria and is rampant in certain areas. The truth is Malaria can only be caught at dawn and dusk so at these times keep covered up and wear repellent. Keep your clothing loose, avoid dark colours and deodorant as mossies are attracted to both of these.More information on Indonesia will be coming soon.
