Longboarding in Asia has been around for longer than you think! During the Vietnam war they surfed longboards out on the infamous Denang beach.

Asia has such a large variety of waves from knarly coral reefs, peeling point breaks to Phukets lovely mellow beach breaks.The world is your oyster here. With experience in traveling through Asia transport is a major issue, especially lugging around a longboard. 1. Medowi Point Bali- This wave is on the north western coastline of this lovely Island, point break( left hander ) The wave is a lot more gentle than most Indo waves still it peels across coral reef until finaly reaching lovely white sand. At times very long waves can be had.

2.Kuta Beach Bali-This wave is very unpredictable but at times can be totally awsome.Kuta beach and Right down to legian beach is super tidal and the waves here increase dramaticly with an incoming tide. Small one meter waves here are perfect for longboarders as there is such a variety of shape.One sandbar could just be super barrels the next a nice long walling wave. Aviod this beach around the wet season,can be dirty

3. Denang Beach Vietnam – This beach goes for kilometers and you would be lucky to see another surfer.At times can hold some great waves and a few years back hosted an international event. You can access this place from the local Denang airport.The best months are November through to February.

4. Hoianne Beach Vietnam- This beach is down the southern end of Denang and works in the same conditions.You can access this by hiring a car and parking at the beach in the car park. I surfed there for two weeks and didn’t see another surfer in sight.Be prepared for spectaters

5. Kata Beach Phuket Thailand- This place is being taken by storm with many surfers from all over the world. Kata Beach is a beginners paradise. The wave most of the time is relatively soft, but can pack a punch at two meters high. The season here is May to October during the Monsoon. Mostly the waves here are onshore but if the wind is light it can be glassy.For more information on surfing in Thailand go to the page surfing in the land of smiles.

Asian longboarding competitions

1. Phuket Surfing Competition

This competition is held annualy and hosts a longboarding section. It is held in the beginning of September and runs for about 4 days.This competition is very relaxed and the prizes change every year.Keep an eye on this site for this years updates on the event.
